Product Education

The 250K Squat Bar is a product of painstaking engineering efforts culminating in a barbell used to execute some of the heaviest squats of all time. Developed through an exhaustive testing regimen, this competition standard bar was designed to outperform and outlast all other squat bars on the market.

Boasting a tensile strength exceeding 250k PSI and a Rockwell hardness of 51 RC, the 250K Squat Bar sets a new benchmark for barbell resilience. This superior hardness means that over time, the bar's knurl remains as sharp and effective as they day you unbox it, providing a consistent, aggressive grip that withstands the test of time and heavy use. Even in areas of frequent contact with racks, the bar preserves its fine, tacky feel, ensuring that it will endure heavy squat sessions for years to come. Fully knurled with precise center and powerlifting markings, this bar secures a steadfast grip on your back during the most intense squat sessions, rendering chalk an afterthought.

At Kabuki Power, we don’t just manufacture barbells; we craft legacies. Made with American steel and assembled by hand in Portland, Oregon, each 250K Squat Bar reflects the passion and expertise of our dedicated team. The Squat Bar is designed to be a lifelong training partner and a functional work of industrial art that you can pass down through generations.

Distinguished by our unique stamped end-caps featuring an updated but still iconic Kabuki Squat Face, this squat bar doesn't just meet standards—it sets them.

The Black Ice finish is a proprietary innovation that exemplifies our commitment to quality and performance. It combines multiple treatment processes to offer a finish that feels like raw steel, looks visually appealing, and provides enhanced corrosion resistance. This balance of characteristics makes it a standout feature in our product lineup, reflecting our dedication to continuous improvement and innovation in the manufacturing process. To maintain the Black Ice finish, it is important to reapply the Bar Sauce product as needed, ensuring the bar retains its optimal appearance and performance over time.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What is the difference between a power bar and squat bar?

A traditional competition power bar is 29mm in diameter and weights 20kg, with specific length and dimensional tolerances. The squat bar is a lift-specific competition barbell for the Squat event. It’s diameter is generally thicker (in our case 31.75mm) and weights more than a standard power bar. Our 250k Squat Bar weights 25 kilograms. Additionally, the squat bar features a fully knurled center shaft with powerlifting and center markings.

What does the higher tensile strength and hardness mean in practical terms?

A bar’s metallurgical properties are the primary determining factors in the mechanical properties of the bar, or in more practical terms, how the bar behaves in the lifter hands against gravity and the force generated. The yield strength of the metal determines how much stress it can take before permanent deformation, while the tensile strength measures its breaking, or fracture point. The softer, or lower strength a bar is - the more it bends under load. The harder, or higher yield/tensile strength a bar is - the less it bends under load. Each of these options varies the feel or oscillation of a bar under load, and the art of bar design comes in determining the fine dance between the bars properties and how it behaves under load, against gravity.

What is the difference between Kabuki knurl and other bar’s knurl?

The 250k Squat Bar is fully knurled from sleeve to sleeve. Our knurl was designed from the ground up and based on established research to 1) be the “stickiest” knurl possible - on the back or in-hand, 2) minimize dermal penetration and damage to skin, and 3) maximize neural response.

Can this bar be used in sanctioned powerlifting competitions?

Yes, the 250k Squat Bar meets the competition specifications for powerlifting federations that allow the use of a squat-specific barbell - like the IPL/USPA, WRPF, SPF, APA, and others. Only metallic finishes like Zinc or Black Oxide can be used on the competition platform.
